The School of Education Library is a specialized library in the field of pedagogy, education and training, covering all the subjects taught in the school. It provides University of Iceland students and staff with access to information and services relating to teaching, study and research. The library is also open to the general public.
The library is located on the ground floor in the Hamar building at the School of Education in Stakkahlíð. The library has good study facilities, including three small reading rooms and a group study room that may be reserved for a small fee.
All library materials are listed in the national online catalogue, Gegnir, searchable via leitir.is (brochure). Most of the library material is available on loan in periods ranging from a couple of days to a month. Reference and information services are provided at the library itself, by phone or via e-mail. The library has a policy of assisting and encouraging users to become more independent in their search for information and references.
Information literacy training is included in the introductory courses in the school’s academic programs. The library also offers an introduction to foreign databases and instruction in information gathering. The same privileges and rules that apply to on-campus students apply to students in distance learning, and the library staff endeavours to offer them the same level of service.
The School of Education Library provides its users with photocopies of articles that are not available in the library and/or books via interlibrary loan. A fee is taken for these services (see price list). A request for interlibrary loan should be sent by logging into Gegnir and going to My Account on the front page. To order inter library loan click on the Request ILL button and fill out the required fields.
The School of Education students have the same right as other University of Iceland students to borrow books from the National and University Library of Iceland.
